Vekic Breaks Form to Win in Two Sets
Former world No.1 Aryna Sabalenka has suffered a shock defeat in the first round of the Dubai Championships, losing in two sets to Donna Vekic. Vekic, currently ranked 34th in the world, broke Sabalenka's serve twice in the first set and held on to win 7-6. Sabalenka fought back in the second set, but Vekic again broke her serve twice and closed out the match 7-5.
The defeat is a major setback for Sabalenka, who has been in excellent form since winning the Australian Open in January. Vekic, meanwhile, will be buoyed by the victory and will be looking to make a deep run in the tournament.
