PSG Edge Out Real Sociedad in Champions League Opener

Comfortable Win Gives French Giants Advantage in Knockout Tie

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) took a significant step towards the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League after securing a 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad in the first leg of their round of 16 clash at the Parc des Princes.

The French giants dominated possession and territory throughout the match but struggled to break down a resolute Sociedad defense in the first half. However, they came out with renewed vigor after the break and quickly found their way through.

Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring in the 53rd minute, finishing off a clinical counterattack with his trademark pace and skill. Neymar doubled the lead just eight minutes later with a stunning free kick from the edge of the area.

Sociedad had their moments, particularly in the first half, but lacked the necessary cutting edge to trouble PSG's defense. The Basque club will need to produce a major upset in the second leg in Spain if they are to progress in the competition.

With the victory, PSG extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to 10 matches. They will travel to San Sebastian for the return fixture on March 8, where they will be confident of finishing the job and securing their place in the last eight.
